BREAKING: Officer-involved shooting in South Palm Springs

LATEST: An officer who was injured during a fight with the suspect was released from the hospital the day after the incident. Police have not released the officer’s name, but did say the injuries were only moderate. Witnesses said the officer confronted the suspect, whom witnesses said was welding a knife, threatening people and yelling racial slurs, almost immediately upon arrival. The suspect was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. His status is not known at this time.

5:37 PM: Officials say an altercation between five individuals in the Bank of America parking lot resulted in the call that lead to police shooting a suspect who allegedly had a knife. Anyone who may have witnessed the original fight between the group is urged to contact police to help with the investigation. Police do not believe there is any further danger to the public at this point.

5:27 PM: Palm Springs Police say the shooting involving an officer was at Camino Parocela and S. Indian Canyon Drive. One officer sustained minor injuries and a suspect has been transported to the hospital.

5 PM: Just after 4 PM today officers from The Palm Springs Police Department were involved in an officer involved shooting. More details will be released at a later time, but motorists are advised that South Indian Canyon Dr. and South Palm Canyon Dr. between Ramon Road and Camino Parocela are closed due to the active investigation.
